Making the world a better place, for everyone
“I want to be a driving force in an organization that can raise people to be better than I am or better than I hope to be,” – Mahalia Henschel
Funding Endowed Scholarships
Scholarship support is at the core of our University mission. Forty-five percent of undergraduate students receive some type of need-based or merit-based scholarship support, and a significant portion of the funds raised by CSU are directed to new and existing scholarships. Approximately 25 percent of new freshmen at CSU are the first in their families to pursue a college education.
As a first-generation student, Mahalia Henschel relies on scholarship support to attend CSU. She dreams of one day using her communications education and training to reduce systematic inequalities among marginalized communities.
“I want to be a driving force in an organization that can raise people to be better than I am or better than I hope to be,” said Henschel.
She hopes to advocate for and lead change, particularly by one day being a thoughtful and inspiring workplace supervisor or program director who leads with compassion and kindness – traits she is growing through a minor in leadership students and the President’s Leadership Program.
“Being able to laugh with someone no matter what they look like and no matter what they’re doing has really helped me as a leader,” said Henschel.
Henschel would love to “change the world.” And she is. She hopes her daily acts of kindness, and the positive changes she sparks in the workplace will radiate outward to create positive change.
