“May thy Green and Gold unite us”
Like the beloved words of our alma mater, traditions unite us a single Ram family, bonded by a common commitment to excellence, service to each other and the world, and experiences that shaped our lives. Nurturing and preserving those traditions through your support for CAM the Ram, membership in the Alumni Association, or official CSU license plates strengthens the bonds between past, present, and future.
The Alumni Association’s functions are tremendous and provide an opportunity to meet other wonderful alumni. Membership is the logical extension of attending CSU; it cements bonds, loyalties, and relationships.

The Stories Behind the Traditions
Keeping the Oldest Tradition Alive
November 3, 2022
Comatose, the famed 75 mm French cannon that fires during football games, is Colorado State University’s oldest tradition and it takes a lot to keep it alive.
The Tradition Above Us
March 1, 2021
During an assembly in December of 1923, Aggie students agreed to create a large A on a hogback west of town. The following week, they began to clear brush and move rocks on the steep hillside to form an A. The landowner, R.G. Maxwell, gave the College a 99-year lease for $1. In September of 1924, students increased the height of the A to 450 feet, with corresponding widening, then “whitewashed” it. The tradition of painting the A had begun.
The Old Main Bell: Historic treasure returned to campus
March 1, 2021
The original Old Main Bell hangs in the Jim & Nadine Henry Family Tower at the north entrance of the Smith Alumni Center. After its mysterious return some ninety‐seven years after its disappearance, the Associated Students of Colorado State University (ASCSU) generously paid to have the bell refurbished and will work alongside the Alumni Association to bring back the tradition of the bell for Rams victories and to commemorate special University occasions.
