This is the face of genuine gratitude: a student taking a moment to share some good news – life-changing news – made possible by the generosity of Walter Scott, Jr.

On Tuesday, October 12, Katie Sheridan and fellow recipients of Walter Scott, Jr. undergraduate scholarships attended a special reception hosted by representatives of the Suzanne and Walter Scott Foundation and members of the Scott family. They had an important announcement to share in the wake of Mr. Scott’s passing on September 25.

Earlier this year, Mr. Scott had decided to expand the existing Scott Scholars Program by increasing his already transformational investment in student success by $11.4 million over 10 years through his foundation. Beginning next year, Katie and her fellow undergraduate Scott Scholars will receive significantly more support for tuition, housing, and meals – in many cases, up to $16,000 more per academic year. In addition, students can apply for extra financial assistance for professional conferences, internships, study abroad programs, and research opportunities.
