Message from the VP – August 2016

Brett Anderson, vice president for
University Advancement

Dear Colleagues,

Summer is racing to a close. I appreciated all of you investing your time and energy into another successful retreat. It’s important to learn together, create a team culture we want, and set the right tone for the upcoming year. These next few days, we watch a new class of Rams descend on campus and, with them, the energy and flurry of a new school year. As our students, faculty, and staff return to campus, I hope you will welcome the excitement and once again remember the critical part you play in shaping what Colorado State University is all about.

Our fundraising performance from FY16 was remarkable. Because I think these numbers are tremendous, I’ll share them again.

  • 38,696 donors

  • $197.8 million in gifts
  • Best year ever for gifts to academics, athletics, and the CSU Alumni Association
  • 10.71 percent alumni participation – still climbing from a record-breaking year last year
  • Quadrupled private support in the last 10 years
  • 1,600 first-time donors to athletics
  • Most successful Day of Giving to date

We’re already out of the gate with success with several million dollar-plus gifts booked, some pending official announcements, and several more anticipated. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again – we are able to celebrate these outcomes because of your continued commitment to being deliberate, strategic, and collaborative in all of our fundraising efforts. What we are doing solidly places CSU among the nation’s fundraising elite – blowing past officially designated peer institutions including University of Colorado Boulder, Iowa State, Kansas State, Michigan State, North Carolina State, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Purdue, University of Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Washington State.

That said, get ready for another outstanding year. We have raised more than $640 million toward our billion-dollar goal, and we’re not letting off the gas any time soon. Take in the enthusiasm and the anticipation that comes along with the start of a new school year, and know that your contribution to making this an amazing place to live, study, and work is very real.

Thank you for all you do. Go Rams!

My best,

Brett
