Message from the VP – March 2016

Brett Anderson, vice president for
University Advancement

Dear Colleagues,

The official start of spring is just around the corner, and that means warmer days (which we’ve been enjoying a lot of lately, anyway) and longer evenings. This change in the season always signals renewed opportunities to connect with our friends and donors. Take advantage of the upcoming great weather, and invite them back to experience our beautiful campus and all that Fort Collins has to offer.

The past few weeks have included a flurry of activities. We’ve publicly announced our campaign, booked some major gifts for the University and are on the verge of announcing several more, and the women’s basketball team is headed to the NCAA tournament for the first time in more than a decade! Many thanks to everyone who had a chance to join us in Las Vegas for the Mountain West Conference championships. What a rush of excitement to watch our men’s and women’s basketball teams with strong showings during the tournament and to see the women’s team be crowned the champions. All of these great gifts and signature events should help serve as a reminder of all the great things going on at CSU.

As we enter into the fourth quarter of the fiscal year and begin to plan for the next fiscal year, we’re embarking on conversations about challenging, yet very necessary, topics such as the proposed gift fee and our long-term goals and objectives. I sincerely appreciate everyone’s efforts to learn about and embrace this opportunity for us to transform our division into a self-sustaining operation. We are such an effective and efficient fundraising unit – spending only nine cents for every dollar raised. And yet, we continue to be impacted by the volatile market and declining state support when seeking funding for our operations. There is a better, more stable, and more sustainable way to do our business and improve our support of our great University. I hope you see the benefits of our proposed changes and can wholeheartedly support them. If you have questions or comments, please reach out to me.

I would like to thank you again for your tremendous determination, dedication, adaptability, and commitment to excellence. You are what makes this unit successful each year. Let's finish another one strong! Thanks for all you do for our students and this great University.

My best,

Brett
