Message from the VP – May 2016

Brett Anderson, vice president for
University Advancement

Dear Colleagues,

Colorado State University and Fort Collins are fantastic this time of year. When the flowers are blooming and the trees leaf out, the campus and town come to life, and it is a great reminder why we live where we do. To top if off, we get the privilege of graduating another well-prepared, eager, and hopeful world-class cohort of Rams.

Last week, nearly 3,200 undergraduates and more than 1,300 graduate students received Colorado State University degrees. Surrounded by supportive family and friends, they celebrated, took photos on the Oval, and reveled in their accomplishments. Their hard work and commitment has led them to the here and now. It’s one of the significant milestones in a person’s life. Congratulations to the newest class of graduates, and welcome to the Rams alumni family!

I believe CSU has prepared our graduates for greatness. I believe each and every one of you has played a role in their success. Your tireless efforts have had a tremendous impact on all areas of a student’s experience. Our record-breaking fundraising and engagements mean more scholarships that provide access and opportunity, support for hundreds of programs, and research that changes lives.

In the past month, we gathered with a sold-out crowd of Denver alumni and friends at the CSU Alumni Association’s Green & Gold Gala to support the Metro Denver Scholarship endowment. We had an incredible night. The venue, the new Westin Denver International Airport, hosted a grand celebration for a wonderful cause. Before that, we celebrated the tremendous news that CSU alumnus Michael Smith donated $13 million to touch so many key areas across the University by creating scholarships and funding facilities. And, thanks again to so many of your efforts, we enjoyed a goal-busting Love Your State Day of Giving with 1,974 gifts totaling more than $127,000 from 43 states!

We have had an incredible run. We have raised more than $180 million so far this fiscal year (yet another record for the fifth year in a row) – more than $67 million since the public launch of the campaign in February – and we have blown by our previous record for donors, exceeding 36,000 with more than six weeks to go. And there is much more to come, as I know all of you will ensure we finish the year strong. I can’t thank you enough for all of the time and determination you put into making CSU a fantastic place!

My best,
